Courageous Fatherhood

The boys from Sherwood Baptist Church are at it again. You may not recognize the name of Sherwood Baptist Church, but you’ve probably heard of at least one of the movies they’ve made, Flywheel, Facing the Giants, or Fireproof. As part of the Southern Baptist Convention that I attended this week, we were treated to a first look at their next movie, Courageous. Check out the website here for details. With Courageous, the folks at Sherwood shift their (and our) attention to the important topic of fatherhood.

We are a facing a “man” crisis in our churches. Our culture does not value manhood. It mocks it, criticizes it, mis-defines it, and even dismisses it. But the very specific and unique role of men in our world is not just important but critical. The Bible gives great guidance into all things “man.” So file away this tidbit of info on Courageous, which will be released in theaters in 2011.

This Sunday is Father’s Day and I will be preaching a very special message for men called, God’s Secret to Success. Yes, I believe that God wants men to be successful. I don’t think that “success” and “spirituality” are exclusive of one another. And so I will be defining success for men and sharing a clear word from God’s Word on how to get there. If you live in the River Valley area join me on Sunday at 10:30.
