The following quote does not appear in any textbook. I am confident that it never will. And it is a shame. For all that we teach our children in this country about the man who found this country, we will never be able to teach them this…in the public school system. But I thought that it would be appropriate to share it here, on the eve of July 4th.
As we celebrate our Independence as a nation, I can’t help but be impressed with the Dependence upon God found in one Christopher Columbus.
“It was the Lord who put it into my mind (I could feel His hand upon me) that fact that it would be possible to sail from here to the Indies. All who heard of my project rejected it with laughter, ridiculing me. There is no question that the inspiration was from the Holy Spirit, because He comforted me with rays of marvelous inspiration from the Holy Scriptures…
I am a most unworthy sinner, but I have cried out to the Lord for grace and mercy, and they have covered me completely. I have found the sweetest consolation since I made it my whole purpose to enjoy His marvelous presence. For the execution of the journey to the Indies, I did not make use of intelligence, mathematics or maps. It is simply the fulfillment of what Isaiah had prophesied…
No one should fear to undertake any task in the name of our Saviour, if it is just and if the intention is purely for His holy service. The working out of all things has been assigned to each person by our Lord, but it all happens according to His sovereign will… Day and night, moment by moment, everyone should express their most devoted gratitude to Him.”

Jeff, what a wonderful quote from a faith-filled explorer. Where did you find the quote?
I would love to read the book and have a copy , as I am sure there are more wise words from our founding fathers. I will be sharing this quote with my Sunday school class tomorrow.
Darrell - you can find the quote in "The Light and the Glory" by Peter Marshall.

GREAT book!
"I am a most unworthy sinner, but I have cried out to the Lord for grace and mercy, and they have covered me completely."
Awesome. Just awesome. If only we would all understand this, and become fully dependent on Jesus.
By the way, an amazing service on Sunday morning! I'm not one to get teary eyed, but I was truly moved by the music, message, military tributes, and the prayer throughout. It was a great time of worship.
